Hitting the ball. Practise at hitting straight and to the correct length. Follow the pattern .. walk and stalk, stand, aim, eyes down and swing, keep eyes down. Some basics about the laws relating to hitting the ball: a) players must hit the correct ball cleanly and with a single hit. (b) if you hit your ball (with purpose or by mistake) then that is considered your one go. (c i) it is a foul to damage the lawn at any time with your mallet, your foot etc. (during a shot or not). (c ii) if a ball won't run smoothly over the damaged area (unrepaired) it is a fault (c iii) if it will run smotthly, then it isn't a fault
