midSuffolk CC at Thurston is a new croquet club at the New Green Centre in Thurston, Suffolk. The Trustees of the Centre have supported the conversion of a former bowling green to a croquet lawn. We are affliated to the East Anglian Croquet Federation (EACF), which is supporting the club by loaning us starter equipment. We are also members of the Croquet Association. We have mallets available for loan when beginner players come down to play.
Our lawns cover an area of 42 yds x 42 yds. Actual playing areas are flexible. Generally we will have two lawns 21 yds x 35 yds available for club days. We allocate one match day per week when the hoops will be switched around to make just the one full-size lawn 28 yds x 35 yds. We have a club house for sitting out. Toilets, changing rooms and a cafe are available in the very adjacent New Green Centre. There is a large car park immediately next to the playing lawns and cafe facility.
Times allocated to play golf croquet (GC) socially are the club 'roll-up' days on Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings and afternoons since these days coincide with the cafe being open in the New Green Centre. The cafe is also open on Tuesdays.
Saturday afternoon is allocated for social play, but the cafe isn't open (tea/coffee available in the clubhouse). This session is especially useful for those who are occupied with work, school or college during the week.
Members can play any code on the 21x35 lawns on any other day when maintenance is not taking place. .
Throughout the season we can arrange matches with other clubs, and hold our own internal matches. There are also several 'fun days' organised by the committee.
The club is a member of the Croquet Association, and the East Anglian Croquet Federation.
Our aim is to provide a venue for all ages to play this intriguing game.
